I also teach and must return tomorrow.
What I would like to see is a teacher free from worry about most of those conditions.
Let the parents actually spend time with their children to teach them Spiritually, Culturally, Morally, and teach them Discipline.
Leave the Academic Expectations to me - that is my job.
The rest is the job of the parent BEFORE the student ever reaches my room. By the time the get to me it is too late to change the set behaviors.

Academically? After watching kids at McDonalds try to count money, I'd say better math.
Spiritually? Since this isn't allowed in Government schools, nothing. I'd rather see nothing than a religion I was opposed to.
Hower the radical idea that evolution is a theory and not a proven
done deal would be good.
Culturally? More about American Values and what we stood for
as a nation,
Morally? Anything would be more than what they are getting now by the looks of the crimes we see these days. Babies in microwaves ect....
In terms of discipline? Not much you can do there that would be meaningful since corporal punishment has been outlawed.
Additionally: More about The Bill of Rights and the fact that they are not supposed to be infringed upon, (Specifically the 2nd).

Academically: You should be excited and care about what you're talking about. Make it relevant to the student's everyday lives. If you have to describe WWII, try phrasing it as, "So Germany just goes and steamrollers Poland..." instead of, "Germany invaded Poland because..." It may sound juvenile, but it's easier to remember. Obviously adjust for subject, I just like history.
Spiritually: Respect everyone's beliefs and leave yours at the door.
Culturally: Don't know how to answer.
Morally: Treat everyone with respect and they will reciprocate.
Discipline: Be respectful to the kid but don't take any bullshit. Don't be afraid to tell a kid to shut up, but you have to mean it. While they are in your classroom they will follow your rules.
Expectations: They should all try their hardest and be supported in that. In the end, even if they don't score very well, they should care about the subject more than they did when they came in.

I would like to see teenagers reading at there grade level in order to do college work without struggling through their courses. I would also like to see them know how to write a paper before they get into college. In terms of discipline, I think they need to be required to write a paper on what they are doing wrong in order to pass the course.

In high school? I would like to see teachers that are more aware of student's emotional needs, this is a tough time for them with a high amount of peer pressure. Also, teachers that would start study groups where the kids could interact and have a healthy competition for high grades....is this impossible?

Academically, teach them to think critically.
As for all the rest, it is covered with one word: RESPECT.

I think teachers don't let students think on their own everything my teacher says is like pointing towards her own views, she even shows us this crap propaganda to make us into little versions of herself.
