My daughter has had this lion head goldfish for about a year. One week ago I noticed this pimple like growth coming out it's side. It is on the right, closer to the dorsal fin than the stomache, and closer to the tail than the head. It does appear to be getting bigger. The fish still eats and poops. If this fish is dying I need to find another for this will be traumatic for my daughter.

Could be the start of ick, which looks like grains of salt, easily treated with ick cure, aquarium salt or meltyl blue. (try clout its great). Could be a scale that got hooked off or it could be a hook worm.

Clout or any parasite medication will take care of it if it is ick or a worm or many things. When in doubt treat. Turn off your lights and take out the carbon from the filter.

If you're not using a filter, it could be an ulcer from poor conditions. If you treat and it doesn't go away, change to a tank with a filter (use proper set up and cycling techniques).

It depends on the size of the "pimple". It sounds like it is probably a tumor. It could also be ich. If it is use an ich medication. If it a tumor either leave it alone and keep an eye on it.The other thing you can do is remove it. NOTE: This is very stressful on the fish. If you do choose to remove it try to get some potassium permanganate from a pet store or vet and add it to the water to prevent infection to the wound caused by cutting out the fishes tumor. Unless this is a show quality, show fish or good quality breeding stock I would just leave it alone.

I agree with adding the freshwater salt. Also I have 2 female lion heads & they luv zuccini. The only thing is, is zuccini floats so it needs anchored down. I use the weights from bunched plants for mine & it works well. I would try that cuz you could put that zuccini slice right in front of it so it get a chance to eat. I would just keep an eye on it & make sure it doesn't have swim bladder. But most likely it just needs to adjust. I wish you luck.

I'm not sure but it is best that you ask a pet store worker that works with fish cause they would usually know. However if that growth begins to look like a piece of wet tissue stuck to its body it has fungus and there is tablets for it but if it looks like how i described it is likely it will die so be prepared for it happened to each of my 5 fishes. So i recommend to ask a pet store worker.
