Try cutting a section of oak wood and putting each in water for different amounts of time. The more water wood soaks up, the harder it will be to make it burn.

No, but there are two treatments to make it less combustible.

One is by a special surface paint. The term that describes the paint it Fire Retardant. When exposed to heat, this paint forms bubbles, swells up and chars. This provides insulation for some time. The process of swelling and charring is called intumescence.

The other treatment is the forcing of chemicals into the wood under pressure. This process gives better results than flame retarding.

Only way wood can be uncombustable is if its petrified. I believe adding any sort of chemical compound you put on it will just delay the wood from catching fire.

Make it completely wet.....soak it in water until its taken in a lot of water. It would be next to impossible to burn such wood
