Not as a security blanket, but as a cover ?

I know a newborn needs a swaddling blanket.
What I meant is what age is it safe to put a blanket in with a child, so he won't strangle himself etc. ? Thanx

You can use a light blanket after birth to swaddle a baby. A baby should be at least 6-12 months before using a blanket to cover them, because of the risk of SIDS. Instead of a regular blanket, use a zippered sleeper blanket. It keeps the baby covered and warm without the risk of falling off or over their face, no risk of SIDS.

If the baby is sleeping in a crib then the doctors usually don't want you to use a blanket...they say to keep the room warm enough so they don't have to use a blanket. But i would suggest talking to your pediatrician. Good luck

My babies always had a blanket over them to keep them warm. You just tuck in the edges so that it can't be accidentaly pulled over their heads.

At birth. I would reccomend a very warm one for the night. Also if you are worried that it might get on top of its face and cause suffocation, wrap the baby up.

I used one from the start and just stopped it at waist high and tucked it around her. After she was a couple months old she was able to kick it off and pick it up off her if she didn't like it. Once she was able to roll over I just lay it on her up to like armpits... she moves it if she doesn't like it... :)

I gave my daughter one about 9 months or so....she rarely keeps it on her though, usually ends up underneath her. Now she is 19 months and she pulls it up when she does want it on her.

From birth. Just watch them. They'll get used to it and learn how to move it around.
