America is a Christian country? It's just an easier way to include all the holidays.

Wow, so many erroneous assumptions in one question.
1) No-one is "supposed" to say "Happy Holidays". Many people prefer to, but no-one's stopping you from saying Merry Christmas
2) It hasn't "always been Merry Christmas". Merry Christmas has only been commonplace since the late 19th Century. Happy Holidays was around much longer. BOTH greetings have co-existed just fine until Conservative Christians decided to get a bug up their collective butts about it, around 5 years ago.
3) America is not a "Christian country". Freedom of religion (ALL religions) is enshrined in the Constitution. And btw, not all Christian denominations celebrate or even acknowledge Christmas.
4) If having someone wishing you a friendly "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas" is "persecution," you have things pretty darned good. Good thing you aren't a Pagan or Wiccan in America, where they are routinely refused employment, fired, expelled from school, denied burial rites, slandered, have their books (even when the books aren't theirs--go figure) banned, gatherings protested, charitible organizations denied funding, and occasionally are even imprisoned because of their beliefs. THAT is persecution..
5) It's not about offending people from other faiths (they aren't offended)--it's about wanting to include people from other faiths (and if you don't want to, that's your affair).
6) What are "they" saying about you, that bothers you so much? Just who are "they" anyway?

Are you KIDDING me? "America is a Christian country"??? That's the most ridiculous assumption I've heard in a while. Do you know how many non-Christians make up up this place? I happen to be one of them. Which doesn't mean I'm not affected by Christmas... I do say Merry Christmas to people who I know celebrate it. But to *assume* they do is incredibly egocentric. (And to say that "Christians [are] persecuted here" is just laughable! There are about a thousand Christian holidays that have become NATIONAL events -- and as a result, have actually made me feel less than human for *not* being Christian, my entire life. Starting with Christmas... Easter...) Sorry Buddy... but I just don't feel sorry for you.
By the way, Happy Holidays. ;)

First, America is not a christian country, because if it was, it would completely contradict the 1st amendment.(if you even know what that is) and 2nd, Cristians aren't being persecuted, you are just being paranoid and I think that you need to have a talk with your therapist and tell him about the dream world you are living in. If anything, its the opposite. Have we ever had a jewish/muslim/hindu/buddhist/etc. president. who converted almost all of the natives here when wuropeans came. Was there ever a time when anyone of a different religon has had a greater influence in this contry. Maybe you should get out of your house and actually travel so that you can actually see what this country is really like and maybe evn put some sense in your head.

I think we have gotten to complacent and what is going on is a result of it. We need to start taking stands, quit being pushed around and speak up. We have taken God out of virtually all aspects of this country. We turn a blind eye and keep quiet. Look where it has gotten us. I once heard a preacher say that if things don't change in America God owes Soddom and Gomorra an apology. I am not saying doom and gloom, but Christians need to quit being complacent and wishy washy and be the people of God they should be. Merry Christmas and Have a Blessed New Year!

Everyone now-a-days just wants to fight about everything. If you tell me Merry Christamas and I don't believe in it then I'm suppose to be offended but I would just tell you Happy Holidays or something. I personally say Merry Christmas but those people out there who want to rule the world think it should be their way or the highway. I don't think they have to say Merry Christamas if they don't want to but they shouldn't get mad b/c I do.

Because, get this: WE'RE OFFENDING PEOPLE WHO AREN'T CHRISTIANS BY GOING AROUND SAYING HAPPY CHRISTMAS.
Things like that make me so mad! We can't be offening them, or they wouldn't be living in our country. No one is OFFENDED. It's our religion, it's been like that of century's and now all of a sudden we have to change it to suit other peoples needs when they probably don't care in the first place?? It's terrible! We shouldn't have to change the way the county's been since YEARS and years ago just because some people who aren't our religion have come to live there and we dont want to offend them. I'm sure if lots of christians went to live in some other country that wasn't that religion No one would change a thing.
I'm not even American, but the dame thing is happening in Britain. Christmas cards aren't allowed to have Jesus on them anymore or anything like that for fear of offending non christians.
I have no problem with people who aren't christians, but i think it's wrong that we have to, lets' say "tone down" our religion just to keep people happy. And what happens if for that...we all go to hell??
Ok well i went a bit far in that last paragraph but things like that really get me angry. No one should have to change. So to hell with it.
hope you had a HAPPY CHRISTMAS everybody!

Somebody complained, said that they were offended. I still say Merry Christmas, will continue to say Merry Christmas. If your offended, go back to where you came from. We live to have freedom of speech-where did that go.

The definition of happiness is "being content textile with one's self." It doesn't remember how some distance up the ladder-of-existence we've climbed, fairly its how we taken care of others as we make the puzzling climb to the suitable.
