Yes and No..

No because if they have already served there sentence with no issues while in jail they should be free to go, They paid the price for there crime.

Yes if they served there time but did nothing but cause trouble in jail (fighting, drugs, etc) then yes it should be extended because obviously they did not learn anything by being in jail in the first place.

Besides the fact you are cheating oin your homework, I will give my opinion. No, in general the sentences should not be extended. We already have an incredibly high rate of incarceration that is destroying our families.

The exception would be to increase the sentences for powder cocaine related cases. AS it stands, only 15 grams of Crack Cocaine gets you serious time, while the same sentence requires a kilo of powder cocaine. Obviously, because crack cocaine is used in predomintantly minority neighberhoods, this has the effect of disproportionately punishing a racial segment of our sociey. Therefore the penalties for powder cocaine should be equal to the sentence for crack cocaine.

Yes. Too many thugs are getting slap-on-the-wrist sentences. We need to drastically cut back on early-release programs. We have a revolving-door justice system. Prisons are overcrowded so we need to build more of them. It doesn't have to cost alot, just follow the model like Maricopa County, AZ. They have their inmates living in tents in the desert and the Sheriff likes to brag it costs more to feed his K-9s than his inmates. Lock 'em up and throw the away the key!

no because when my boyfriend went, half the people were in there for parole violations, the other half on immigration holds and most were due to drug charges. there needs to be something else for these nonviolent criminals, like forced to do rehab and then community service. they are just sitting in there wasting thier lives and not helping society at all.

It depends. For more heinous crimes (rape, murder), definitely! But there is an overcrowding of the prisons with non-violent criminals. So, NO!, many "criminals" are just victims of an unjust and money hungry system.

That makes no sense whatsoever. Criminals are people who are in jail....so thus, if the sentence was extended, then everybody in jail would be there longer......get it?

no. the criminals are out on the streets. most of the folks in prison are doing someone elses time because they made the cops jobs easy and these punks can do the crime but they are to chicken **** to do their time.

Your question is too general to answer w/o qualification.

Once sentence has been imposed in court, it should not be extended.
