Wherever I go, I seem to hear people saying how much they hate hip hop, how stupid it is, how meaningless, how unbearable. You never see so much hatred against rock music, or country music, or anything much else. In fact, on the Web site, all anyone does seem to like is rock and country music. Why are so many people against hip hop?

Also, I don't just mean modern hip hop, I mean hip hop in general.

Because people are idiots. They have never produced a track and don't know what it takes to do. I would challenge anyone who thinks it's not music to put their guitar down and try to make a banger. And look at some of these answers...degrades women? Right...like all hip hop does that. Rock, country, etc all have degrading lyrics towards women, but that doesn't mean that all rock or country does. It's just ignorant. There is PLENTY of smart, creative, educational, and respectful hip hop out there, it's just that people don't take the time because of what they hear only on the radio. I, for one, also believe that racism plays a huge roll in this.

Personally, I don't like hip hop. I think most people just have something against the subject matter- I find it superficial, some people find it annoying or offensive. Since hip hop basically dominates the airwaves, it's often deemed "over-rated" by rock or country fans who are annoyed at its popularity, when they think it's shallow or violent to begin with.

It can also be a bit demeaning to African-Americans and girls everywhere when they show females (such as the Pussycat Dolls) as s.ex objects who aren't good for anything but pole-dancing, or the men as "straight-up gangsta" with "grillz" and girls dancing around them.

I, for one, have looked into a wide variety of music, and I've found that I don't like hip hop (or rap, country, metal...) and that's just my personal opinion. I don't think I'm better than any hip hop fans just because I've decided I prefer other music over it.

Have a great 2007, and I hope I've helped you a little bit.

Most people are not fond of hip-hop because most of it is either too violent, too degrading to women, overuse too many songs from the past and/or uses too many of the same percussion loops over and over. I find it sad because hip-hop did NOT start off that way ---much of it was party music or talked about the current topics that were on the minds of people of the day. I think that hip-hop has reached a plateau because the majority of the artists are now living in the lap of luxury and I think when some of them were suffering and trying to make ends meet, they were able to translate some of that into their music.

I enjoy hip hop as a genre, but I don't appreciate much of what is in the mainsteam today. The popular music is teaching young girls that they need to dress like whores and that the boys should treat them like they are only a s.ex object. It saddens me that the majority of today's hip hop music can be categorized into how many drugs they've taken, how many bottles of cristal they can buy, how many women they're had, and how many times they've been shot. There are so many other worthy topics in this world that can be written about. Why do these artists continue to waste their time, money, and energy on topics that should not be glorified?

I see it as a case of people fearing what they don't understand. People who don't understand hip-hop bash it only for the negative aspects of it: sex and violence. What they don't understand is, there is sex and violence in everything else they listen to, except classical and jazz music, where there are hardly any vocals. Also, what they don't understand is that, hip-hop is far much more than sex and violence. You have actually artists displaying a lot of creativity and skill, but you hardly hear them in the mainstream, because sex and violence sell. People like Lupe Fiasco and Kanye West (though I'm not a huge fan of, due to his ego) have broken that mold, but it's up to the audience to demand that out of hip-hop. The naysayers can say what they want, as long as at the end of the day, they realize that hip-hop ain't goin' nowhere. Its influence is EVERYWHERE! It's been around for over 30 years, and will be around for 30 more and beyond.

I really can't speak for everyone that hates hip hop music. But I don't listen to hip hop music coz all the dumb *** girls in my class listen to it. It's not that I don't like it, it's just that the kid's in my class don't even understand english and they like it so they don't even bother trying to understand any of the lyrics. And it irritates me when they dress all hip hop-ish or whatever. I know it's kind of a stupid answer but that's my reason.

I think is because of the language and the topics that they choose to rap/sing about. Everytime I turn around I here somebody saying that rap is degrading to females and the whole black community(race). It is not as bad as some make it seem. I really like hip hop but some songs are taken a little overboard.

Actually a lot of people don't like Rock also. It's just a matter of taste. I listen to all kinds of music and don't have any problems with any of it. But then again I am older than a lot of people who post on this site. I can do with out all of the references to women as B's and Ho's but if a woman considers her self to be that or allows someone to call her that then that's pretty much he business.

As far as people not liking a certain kind of music: You like what you like, you don't like what you don't.
