I already know how much it costs to maintain a pet because my husband and i have a kitten. We dont have the money right now to adopt but we will have the money to maintain the pet because my husband just got a new job making good money. Does anyone know of a puppy free to a good home or maybe a very small fee? Please let me know and leave your e-mail or you can e-mail me at pamelahadggega@yahoo.com

If you don't have a lot of money, honestly, you shouldn't get a puppy. Puppies require at least 3 distemper shots, a rabies shot, a heartworm test, 3 bordatella vaccines, 9 flea treatments, 9 heartworm preventatives, 2 de wormings and at least 2 check ups including fecals, and spay/neuter surgery just in the first year. That's not including the cost if they get sick. Plus you have the cost of food. You also need to consider buying a crate, collar, leash, and some sort of containment for when your dog is outdoors (like a runner line or fencing). Your puppy will also need identification like tags or a microchip. As a responsible owner you should take a puppy to obdeience classes for training and socialization. You also need to look into the costs of a boarding kennel for when you go away. Certain breeds need regular grooming. None of this includes the costs you will incure when your puppy ruins the carpet or chews the sofa. I would estimate that just the first year of a puppies life, even if you got the puppy for free, will cost you at least $1100. That's about $92 per month. If you don't have an extra $92 per month, a puppy is not the right thing for you right now. Also, it costs drastically less to take care of a cat or kitten than it does a dog.

I would recommend getting a free puppy out of the paper that was a few months old and has already had at least one or two shots. If I knew I didn't have a whole lot of money, the reason being: If you get a puppy around 8 wks they are going to need 3 sets of Dhpp, and a rabies vaccine, 1 the risk of getting parvo is much less,2 you won't have to put out the $ on vaccines. If you got a puppy that developed parvo it could easily run you in the $100's within 3 to 5 days of getting the puppy.

Consider an ad at the store or in the paper. Offer a good home to anyone who has puppies. Expect a lab or a mixed breed, seldom anything small sized. Or of course go to the pound. Consider a pound in a nearby town as well.

look on craigslist or your local paper. i got a purebred siamese kitten for free! many places will charge at least $50.00 to make sure your not going to do inhumane things to it and that your serious. check out the humane society or animal control also. the good thing is the animals from there are fixed which is something you'd have to pay for anyway so you'd end up saving like $200 or more by going that route.

have you checked out your local ASPCA, Humane Society, town pound? They charge a nominal fee because the dogs usually come with their shots, been dewormed and whatever else the pup needs. You also get a discount of neutering or spading. Plus you get a great dog that someone just threw away. We all deserve to be loved.

Aw! Good luck! If I were you I would just look in the paper, and look out for signs in neighborhoods for "Free Puppies To A Good Home".

Check your local newspaper classified section under Pets. Quite often people have litters they are giving away for free. You can also go to your local animal shelter. They have adoption fees, but they are usually nominal.
