My passport is from the U.S. I got it in 1975. It was stolen 1983-1984. I used it in 1975 to go to Italy. I still remember the passport number. Can any of this info be useful to you?

Depends on how "old" it is and is it a US PP.

YES, If You…
Already have a passport that is not damaged; and
Received it within the past 15 years; and
Were at least age 16 when it was issued; and
Still have the same name as in passport (or you can legally document your name change).

Your PP is too old to renew. You will have to start from scratch and apply for a new one. Applications and instruction are available on the State Department web site. Make sure you use the paperwork for a new one, not a renewal.

In Canada, I don't think it matters if you are renewing or applying for a new passport, or if you had one but it has expired, the process is the same. You still need the photos, the signed application from somebody with credentials - lawyer, doctor, engineer, etc. It's like applying for a new passport.

You can't "renew" a Canadian passport - you have to submit your valid passport with the application. The requirement says "any valid passport issued in the last 5 years".

(Some places, like Europe, will give you a hard time if your passport expires in less than 6 months, since you can legally stay there 6 months - at which point you'll be inside their coutries without a valid document.)

The new guidlines for passports have become more difficult but I believe if it is not over the time limit of being too old it can be renewed. Check you local courthouse for information

First, where is your passport from? Is it already expired or about to expire? Do you live in the country that issued the passport? More details please!
