I'd say we only get snow only once or twice a year. Ice tends to be slightly more common here, after wet precipitation in the colder part of the winter, but not often. Makes for some less than fun driving.

I was born in1943 in Dallas, Texas and have continued to visit family after moving away in 1966. Snows I remember: Jan 1950, 1962 and in 72 or 73.
Also one in the late 50,s. I would say we usually had some white to get us a little excited every year. Some time it was a light dusting or ice. The really unusual is to have snow in Houston, Texas. About six years ago, It was snowing when we came out of church Christmas Eve.It was special to have snow on the ground Christmas morning even if only a little.

Here's a very general capsule of both: Dallas: - Experiences all 4-seasons including snow and ice in the winter - Climate is dryer and windier, more midwestern - Has more storms from the western rockies, can produce tornadoes - Housing generally a bit higher than Houston - Better neighborhoods and schools in northern burbs - Great entertainment and professional sports - Very good healthcare system - Excellent job and career opportunities - JR Ewing lives there (lol) Houston: - Extremely mild winder, only freezes a couple times a year - Climate is more humid and generally calmer winds, more tropical - Has more storms from the Gulf of Mexico, can produce hurricanes - Housing very affordable throughout the metro - Better neighborhoods and schools in western and northern burbs - Excellent entertainment and college and pro sports - Population/culture is more diverse - More national landmarks (Astrodome, NASA, San Jacinto, Galveston) - Excellent healthcare (largest in the country) - Excellent job and career opportunities - Anna Nichole Smith is from here (ok, sorry) - Howard Hughes was born and is buried here (true) I had the opportunity to either live in Dallas or Houston. I chose Houston because it was a larger city, had a more diverse culture and it's close to the beach. I like Dallas a lot, but I find Houston has more to offer. Plus, I hate snow and ice. Hope this helps.

Well, I'm not a Dallas resident, but my friend lives there and she told me about this. If snow ever comes in Dallas, it would come during the December-ish time. Snow sometimes comes every year or sometimes every other. If it does snow, it doesn't snow A LOT, you would still be able to drive. It snows very lightly. Good Luck!

Once a year if we are lucky (meaning kids get to stay home from school - their luck - not ours) - or twice.......sometimes maybe 3 times but that is extreme.......our snow might be there in the morning and gone by noon....but that's snow in Dallas, Texas for ya. Back in '78 we had a big ice storm.....or snow, whatever.....had it on the ground for five days or so....but that is like a memory and probably won't happen again for awhile. See ya soon.

Measurable snow once every year on average, some years no snow, other years twice... Ice storms are more common than snow storms... Ice storms are far worse... drizzle rain, then freezing at night, solid ice on rods... nasty...
I think the most snow we every got at one time was 3ish inches one year. We made snowmen it was amazing.. of course, because it was a measly 3 inches, they turned into grass men, since you had to use all the snow in your whole yard to make one snowman, leaving teh yard brown grass and the snowman covered in a layer of stuck on dead grass... ;)
When they have either snow or ice storm DONOT drive even if you are used to it from a more northerly climate. Why? Because noone else knows how to drive in the cold stuff that is on the road and you will be lucky if you donot get in an accident.... Thec ity mostly shuts down anyway if these happen so it shouldn't be a big deal...

what is this "snow" you speak of? I have lived in Dallas for 19 years (my entire life) and I have only seen real snow about 3 or 4 times. In Dallas, we get sleet and or ice usually. It starts off as snow, but it freezes over. That will happen usually once a year around january/february.

It usually snows twice a year. The snow doesn`t get that deep. It is the ice storms that comes with the snow that makes it bad. It is generally gone by about 3 or 4 days and is bad for the first two days when it happens. Lived in the area for 5 years.
