I just loaded and started Second Life for the first time....it's frozen over and over. Cant get past the starting poing. Any ideas? Is it even worth it?

Have you checked that your computer meets the technical specifications, including the speed of your internet connection? SL requires a beefy system with a LOT of memory and graphics capability. If you're using a Mac that might be the problem; SL works notoriously badly on Macs.
You may have been unlucky and tried to log in while the SL servers were down for maintenance or some other problem (which happens a lot), you can check the grid status on the SL blog page: http://blog.secondlife.com/
For me - yes. I've been on Second Life for over 6 months and it HAS been worth it, I've made some great friends there and above all it's fun. It's full of faults, and frustrating downtime, and trolls, but it's all down to what you choose to do with it.
There are NO other free games that compare with it at all, believe me I've tried looking. The next nearest would be Sims Online but you have to pay for that. If you can't get SL to work then you might just have to get your money out and buy something else.

It's your comp, sweetie. I had to get a better vid card. In my opinion, it is definitely worth it. I LOVE MY SECOND LIFE!
