There is an explanation by Sigmund Freud about dreams. He said that most of what are subconscious mind tells us is what goes through our minds when asleep. So to explain why you have dreamed of that person, it could be that you have spent time with him recently, you like him, someone mentioned about him previously, an so on. In a way, there is a relation whether cognitive or in actual with this person.

It means they have been on your mind a lot during the days. Maybe even unconsciously. But to find out why they have been on your mind is your job. =)
