I've noticed this trend amongst East Asian people (Indians, Pakistanis, etc.). I can't quite figure out the allure of hanging a CD from one's rear view mirror - other than to annoy other drivers because of its glare. What's the deal with this?

It's probably some sort of status symbol. I don't know for sure. People hang all sorts of things from their rear-view mirrors. I used to hang a pair of dice from mine, not because I'm a gambler, but someone had given them to me and I just liked to think of them whenever I drove. However, our city ordinance has now outlawed items hanging from rear-view mirrors, saying they impede one's vision when driving and are distracting. So now they're illegal. LOL! End of story!

The Thief would see a treasure. The Bodyguard would see her lost love. The Knight would see his home. With someone waiting for him. The Spy would see the horizon with a new adventure beyond it. The Detective would see an apartment with enough room for his girl to move in with him. The Old Master would see his apprentice taking up his hat. The Inheritor sees a whole new world. The Messenger sees the old world remembered. The Inquisitor sees a drink. A strong one.

Sounds right
But they can blame the accident on being distracted.
It might be just showing off to their friends how affluent they have become.
