I am an American... and I love all God's people. No I am not a religeous nut... as a matter of fact I have renounced the papacy and haven't been to church in years. However I feel as though the son of God is here.... I hope he may heal us from war.
I sin... I have anger issues. I fight and curse. But death makes me shiver... killing others... war ugh. I feel for all people. Diversity makes us strong.
From atleast one American... I LoVE GoD, ALLAH, YAWEA... I LoVE ALL GoDS PEoPLE! May the Iraqis find peace... may the US route its government of corruption, may war see its final days, and may hate take its last breath. oh how I am proud to be a human being.... Life is great, God is great, love is great.
Share your views... don't waiste your time with 1 liners and criticisim.... share ur beliefs... help show others that there is still good in the world... and happy new year!

First of all world peace is not an 'American' problem its a world problem, so you are really asking two very different things.
The American Image started to suffer long before the Iraq war. Here in Canada we have a deep respect for the USA's principles and a long-standing brotherhood but lately we're a little pissed off that our older brother is acting so selfishly on the world stage. You guys are trying so hard to look out for #1 that you aren't even noticing the people you are trampling under foot as you wallow in prosperity while others are barely surviving.
For peace to happen, I believe that all the rich countries of the world, including Canada and the US have to change our way of thinking. We have to stop consuming so much of the world's resources and share our incredible wealth instead of always wanting more.
We have to treat all humans with equal respect and this means a lot more than just agreeing with the words. We have to admit to ourselves that we are indeed wealthy and that in sharing our wealth we do not diminish ourselves.
We have the resources to feed everyone and yet we are too busy fighting over useless trinkets and dying of obesity while over half the world starves. The answers are simple but the will to do it is weak.
The religion of business and the business of religion keep the people weak and divided so that they can be better controlled. Its up to each of us to stand up and have the courage to be pacifists in the face of war and to share the wealth in the face of temptations and empty calorie foods and empty calorie purchases of every possible description being pushed down our throats at every minute. In this way the whole marketing machine is part of the never-ending cycle of violence.
Its up to each individual to control his own damage to the world first and foremost and then educate others on the virtues of compassion and sharing, without falling into the pitfalls of indoctrination.

I believe the two biggest obstacles to universal peace are governments and religion. You cannot name a war that was started by the people, only by the governments and perpetuated by the governments, often for reasons of religious beliefs.
Look at and listen to those around you. No normal person wants war and all the killing, strife and bloodshed. People mostly want to be allowed to live in peace with one another. So much of what makes war is that people want others have. We have never been taught that we can achieve for ourselves. Instead we are taught that the government provides for us, even if what the government provides is taken from somebody else. Imagine what a rich world this would be if people voluntarily did their best to achieve and we were not burdened by governments that suck up and waste over half of everything we create.

I came onto your question "late" so I had the benefit of reading the other responses. I think the answer to your question lies there. Only one or two people seem to take any personal responsibility. Most blame. It's moslems fault, it's the un's fault, it's religion and government who cause wars. But the bottom line is that religion, government, the un - all are comprised of people, of us imperfect human beings. I commend you on your message of love. That is the key. People need to find the love that dwells in all of us, begin to share it with their nieghbours and instead of waiting for somebodyd else to start the change, begin changing things themselves, even if it is one person at a time. Putting love into the world can't do anything but make it a better place. Want to heal the american image? Give the rest of the world a genuine message of compassion and caring. Peace and love to you and to all who responded to your question

If all the muslims would go live on another planet, then that would be a really big step in the right direction. And that is how I truly feel. I am very tolerant and respectful of other view points and religions as are most people of the free world. Its the muslims who have no respect or tolerance for others. They feel that their way is the only way and that they are the master race. They will not co-exist with other cultures. The muslim society is by far the very worst the world has ever seen. If they could all just disappear then the world would be a far better place indeed.

The world was only at peace one time when it only had Adam and Eve. Once others appeared with their diverse cultures and beliefs harmony was destryed. It has always been and always will be that way. War will never be done away with no matter what unfortunaltely.

hopefully when bush leaves office americans will restore their image... sadly most of the world sees america as the starter or wars.... most of my family is outside of america since i have only lived here for a couple of years and they see america not as protecting such as bush says but as the opposite.... i like your view in that you love God no matter how it is said or what language it is in.... i agree because it is the same God and religion is something to unite us all... sadly some people use it as an excuse to start wars or to attack and kill.... the world will see america with new eyes when america truly changes and the people do not prejudice and support wars and murders..

I always see education as a solution. Objective and free (by two meanings) education for all the world. I'm sure it will bring us tolerance to people who don't share our beliefs. School educations are not enough. There should be obligatory education about tolerance. This way we can achieve peace.

Ok - I really believe that 'with great power comes great responsibility'.
America is a super-power and no one will deny that. However, looking at what your country has used its powers toward (chaos, war, damage, destruction, pain, suffering.....).
If your nation started putting it's war money toward charitable causes you would start to see a shift. At the moment however, America is all-consumed with money and greed. Empire building as at the top of it's list of priorities.
From 1998 to 2001, the USA, the UK, and France earned more income from arms sales to developing countries than they gave in aid.
The arms industry is unlike any other. It operates without regulation. It suffers from widespread corruption and bribes. And it makes its profits on the back of machines designed to kill and maim human beings.
So who profits most from this murderous trade? The five permanent members of the UN Security Council – the USA, UK, France, Russia, and China. Together, they are responsible for eighty eight per cent of reported conventional arms exports.
“We can’t have it both ways. We can’t be both the world’s leading champion of peace and the world’s leading supplier of arms.” Former US President Jimmy Carter, presidential campaign, 1976
