In the future, I suspect historians will look back in the war in Iraq and determine that the war was over when the coalition forces took Baghdad. What has been happening since that event has been more on the order of a civil policing action than actual war.
Considering how little the Iraqis care about each other or their country, and how committed they are to family, tribe and sect, I suspect the policing action will be perpetual.
The UK and US are training Iraqi police and military. The way out for the coalition forces is to do that training quickly and turn over the responsibility to the Iraqis. (It appears that is exactly what the coalition forces are doing.)
It is a shame that there is not a "George Washington" figure among the Iraqis who can provide leadership and inspire the people of that country to build on what they have rather than to persist with destroying each other.

What America is trying to do in Iraq it took France, England, Canada and the USA 55 years to do in Europe! After Hitler surrendered, America Military stayed in Europe, up till NOW!
And this is the first time, in all the history of European that
no western European nation has went to war with another one!
But we bombed the place back into the stone age, allowed NO ONE to own, carry, march around with a weapon, and we took out every place, everyone that even remotely looked like they would be aggressive.
Now, we let war zones exist, the enemy parades around with their weapons in sight. Every dummy knows that you cannot win a war like this. Either take them out or come home.
Had we fought WW II the way we are doing in Iraq, we would be speaking German and Japanese!

If the British and Americans left there would still be a civil war. This war won't end this year, maybe in a decade.

IRAQ will be more dangerous than Vietnam to America , which Iexpect sooner or later will retreat from their because of the strong defense ....so war in Iraq will take longer time .

Bush said we will not be pulling out while he is in office. Elections are in 2008, so we're stuck in Iraq for at least that long.

I hope and pray it will- but it does not seem like it will. The big mistake USA made was to let the outsider from Syria and Iran to get inside the country they did not secure the board and now it’s a mess every body is fighting you can’t figure out who is the enemy and who is on our side. Things got worse and worse it will take a while to clean our act.

It will not end until they job we set out to do is complete. and I certainly hope it won't end any sooner than that. There is nothing worse for the survival of our country if we just up and leave before we've accomplished what we mean to.
