The earth is round because it was formed by accretion. Accretion is the progressive build-up of materials in the manner we see with a pearl or an onion.
It is probable that the moon was formed by accretion at the same time. The process would be called binary accretion, where they'd orbit one another and cross feed the minerals. The mineral constituency (% by wt) of the earth and the moon support this theory.
Earth ------------ Moon
Fe 34.6 ---------- 9.3
O 29.5 ----------- 42.0
Si 15.2 -----------19.6
Mg 12.7--------- 18.7
Ca 1.1 ----------- 4.3
Al 1.1 ------------ 4.2
Ni 2.4 ----------- 0.6
Na 0.6 ---------- 0.07
S 1.9 - 4.7 ------ 0.3

The answer is simple... Due to Gravity....
The gravitational force acts in all directions from the centre of the earth.. If you know some history of the Earth, which had been in molten form and later the crust got solidified..
The molten state also helped the earth to get its Round form by equal distribution of the matter around the center of the earth...
So when the matter from all directions got towards a point, it resulted in Round form.(Eg: Sphere has radius which is equi-distant from the centre to the surface in all directions.)
But due to the speed of the rotation of the earth on its own axis the earth became a bit Ovoid, so the polar diameter is lesser than equitorial diameter..
The Uneven surface which we see is due to the cooling of the earth and the Volcanic activity....
