There must be something else going on that you are not saying. A beta is the easiest pet you could ever have. It does not require a large tank. Maybe that is their draw back. The next time you are at Wal-Mart show them the little cups they live in until bought.

The little cups bettas live in at the store are intended for temporary habitation only! Bettas need room to swim, filtration, and a heater just as much as any fish. The only reason they're kept in those cups is because they're so popular that the stores stock tons of them but they can't be kept together so there's no room for them, and they are capable breathing at the surface so don't need as much aeration.

I second the recommendation that you try to strike a deal with them. Ask them if you can have the fish in exchange for good grades, behavior, chores, etc

If they're not going to bend, maybe you can ask a science teacher if you can set up and maintain a tank in their room? or at a friend's house?

All I can suggest to you is keep showing them how responsible you will be with the pets that you have. If you keep asking maybe they'll give in and let you get one. Fish are hard to take care of I should know I used to have some and if I were you I'd want to get a pet that's a lot less to take care of then a fish.

Tell them that Betta fish cant be together so you will only have one, they only need a small bowl or fish tank because they are small, you rarely have to clean there bowls because they dont eat much-you know the rest, they are of course quiet. And just try showing them that you are responsible and can take care of the fish.

Make a deal. I wanted my bedroom painted when I was younger and I knew my parents HATED that I kept clothes on the floor all the time. I agreed to keep my room clean for a month if they would let me paint my room. Try something like that! (and good luck!!)
