Any suggestions? Experts seem to disagree on whether or not being around what is feared helps. Some say it does, while others say it only makes the fear worse.

Fear of children being the same thing as, for example, fear of snakes or fear of spiders, etc. But more to do with energy patterns and hyperactivity than anything else.

Because of their unusual energy patterns, it is difficult to be around them. Think: ghosts.

Paul,
I'm so sorry that you suffer from this phobia. It is one that i've never heard of before, but will do some research on.
I agree that more information would be valuable in helping you figure out a good method of treating this. For example, do you suffer from panic attacks when you're near children? Can you think of what might have triggered it?
I belive medication might help to some extent but more importantly, some therepy might be more helpful.
Remember, having a phobia does in no way mean that you are crazy. Most people have phobias ; they're just more common ones like fear of spiders, snakes, heights, and roaches.
Yes, I belive facing your fear in small doses might be a good thing.
I have to admit, i'm afraid of roaches, so I understand how it feels. However, yours is much worse since children are everywhere.
Oh, by the way, some children these days are to be feared simply because of the lack of intrest and dicipline their parents give to them.
Good Luck and hey, email me and let me know how you're doing with this. I'm quite interested.
((((((hugs)))))))

If a person fears children they are bugged out and should be kept away from children for the safety of the children. I personally don't care for kids that much and that's OK but being scared of them is not.

With Love, affection and personal example......I mean encouraging to face the fear with you. Teach them that fear is natural and even you have certain fears and that the best strategy is to face the fear squarely.
