Of course the best known attractions are the Alamo and the Riverwalk (both free) but there is a lot to do.
The McNay Art Museum is very special and also free (closed on Mondays). There is the San Antonio Museum of Art that does have an admission.
There are two huge theme parks: Fiesta Texas (Six Flags group) and Sea World. Both are open seasonally.
My favorites make up the National Historical Park: the Spanish Colonial Missions other than the Alamo that are part of the national park. Mission Concepcion, Mission Espada, San Jose and Mission San Juan are the four. If you are into engineering, the Espada Dam and Aqaduct are national engineering sites.
Then there is some of the best food anywhere. Along the Riverwalk are the clubs and some restaurants that will satisfy anyone. But, elsewhere in town, you can find treasures. Not everything is Mexican or Tex-Mex food, but that is one specialty of course.
Last week the New York Times had a travel article about San Antonio, with only one little glitch--the faux Market crack is a bit off. It was and is an authentic market, but not as rustic as it once was. See the link below.
The ride on the river boats is worth the money. If you are into the history, the free movie at the Park Visitor Center at San Jose is very good as is the IMAX movie in RiverCenter Mall, right across from the Alamo.
Hope this helps.

1. Can get very hot in the summer, a few chilly days in the winter, almost never snows. 2. There is a large arts scene just south of downtown in Southtown. Tobin Center for Performing Arts is being constructed, lots of museums, Latino and Tex Mex culture is heavliy present but there are some emphasis of German and minor of Afro American and Asian. 3. The city has a large tourism industry. So staying downtown or on the northwest side, you have a lot of nice hotel options. A couple of good malls as well. The area is near the hill country which boasts rolling hills with wineries and ample opportunity to bike and walk on trails. The beach is about 2 hours away. Some nice parks in the city to. 4. The best districts are on the northside and in alamo heights. The biggest university there is the University of Texas at San Antonio. There are several nice private universities. 5. Housing and cost of living is cheap compared to other parts of the country. More urban living can be a tad expensive. 6. Just like any true big city, there is crime and it can happen anywhere. However, there are areas with more problems than others and other areas where you are very safe. 7. Go to hospitals or clinics. Healthcare in the U.S. is not universal 8. Not sure 9. The city offers different kind of lifestyles so depending on which one you choose your life can vary. It is big and not every area is the same. If you can handles some summer heat, check it out.

We have the Institute of Texan Cultures. It's museum that has artifacts of the different peoples who have lived in the area now known as Texas for the last 30,000- 50,000 years. it's run by the University of Texas @San Antonio.
The Alamo and the Federal Courthouse/Post Office across the street built in 1937 that has frescoes inside depicting the history of Texas from it's founding to the time of statehood.
The Riverwalk along with the Imax Theatre. RiverCenter Mall is also nice.

I love SA! I can't wait to get back. There's sports all the time. You can be at the beach in 2 hours, a good beach in five. Austin is an hour away houston is three, dallas is also five. The most fun in SA is the riverwalk. You can go downtown and not sepnd a penny and still have fun just enjoying the sites and listening to live music. All and all SA is the place in Texas.

You name it.. we have the beautiful River Walk downtown, plus the Alamo and the Tower of the Americas. Lots of other places downtown also.
We also have Sea World, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, waterparks etc.
The Hill country is close by with super little towns and beautiful countryside, along with large rivers, lakes and dams.

They have many things to do. There's downtown, where you can go to the Alamo, Ripley's Believe It or Not, stores, etc. They also have Six Flags Fiesta Texas, and Sea World. Nice place to visit. I like to go to the Japanese Tea Garden, but at the moment it's under construction.
