i've been asked to prepare one mole of sodium chloride. how do you do that?

Sodium Chloride is NaCl, which has molecular weight 23+35.5=58.5. Since Sodium Chloride is simply table salt, you would measure out 58.5 grams of table salt. This is a bit over 2 ounces.

A mole contains a certain number of particles. This number is known as the Avogadro constant. You can look it up. It would take you a little while to count this many atoms. People normally weigh moles by multiplying the molecular weight by the Avogadro constant.

I don't know what a "mole" is, but sodium chloride is your basic, every-day table salt... but you probably already knew that.
