If the item is still in bidding, use the bid retraction feature to retract your bid. If the auction is over, and you won the item, mistake or not, it's yours pay the seller. If you start getting negative feed back as new user, nobody will sell to you. As an Ebay seller I will not sell to buy who has repeated negative feed back in the past thirty days for non payment of items. Once you have won the item there is a binding contract between you and the seller.

When you hit the buy it now, it doesn't mean that you have bought the item....you are then taken to another screen to confirm....which you obviously hit as well, otherwise you would not be receiving a 'pay the seller now notice'!! It sounds as though you just changed your mind which will p1ss the seller off. The seller has to pay fees for listing an item. The only way that they can get the money back is to report you, which you don't really want do you? as negative feedback will stay with. Mail the seller again, tell them that it was a mistake and offer to pay them the fees that it cost to list the item.....it won't be a lot on 9.99. I changed my mind on something once that was quite expensive, I came clean with the seller and offered to pay their fees, which they accepted. Give it a go. Hope that this helps..

You can ask the seller to cancel your bid. If you explain your mistake and the Seller is understanding, then you can both agree not to go ahead. The Seller will file a Non Paying Bidder Alert in order to retrieve any commission that ebay has charged the seller, but it can be agreed to end the sale amicably and the seller can relist the item. The Non Paying Bidder programme will not necessarily harm your ratings if you both agree not to proceed and no negative feedback is given. If you do receive negative feedback, you can ask for this to be withdrawn. I hope this is helpful and don't worry too much. If it was a genuine mistake, then the Seller will try and sort it out. Good luck.

If you just don't pay for the item you may get an unpaid item strike against you. Email the seller again and explain what has happened, they will open a dispute for the item, reply to it saying that you clicked by accident and hopefully the seller will close the dispute saying that you both agree not to go ahead with the sale. Good luck

The seller can initiate a dispute to mutually end the transaction and then they can claim back their final value fee from ebay. This won't result in you getting a strike.
Remember, this mistake will cause the seller time and trouble and cost them money so you should really offer to pay for the listing fees and relisting fees for the item.
Hopefully they will be understanding about your error and let you off the transaction.

If you clicked the buy it now button you are legally bound to buy the item. The seller may understand and may let you off the hook since you are a new E-bayer, but they also may make you purchase the item.
I find it strange that you went through this process. You have to confirm you bids on e-bay, even when you do click buy it now. Just read all the screens next time.
On the up side, you could always resell the item on e-bay and maybe get more than you purchased it for. :)

Be careful, Ebay has developed protection for buyers and sellers.
If you use the the buy it now option, if the seller wishes to, they can arrange to have you prosecuted as you have entered a contract to buy.
Contact the seller and try to work it out with them. If you cant but wish to have a 100% rating then pay em and try to sell on perhaps.
Good luck for whatever you decide

Tell the Seller, if they are understanding they will work with you. But if they are just looking for money, then your out of luck. Some Ebay sellers would sell their own mother.

well if they are a decent person then you should be able to cancel..after all they haven't sent you the item and they can always sell it again.this has happened to me before when someone has bought an item from me by mistake-a little kindness and honesty goes a long way on ebay.Explain to them that you are a new member and are unsure of the ropes as it were.:o)
