There is a thin line between "direction and control", which an employer has the right to do, and harassment, which could constitute an illegal "hostile working environment".

If your employer is harsh, demanding, and constantly counseling (criticizing your work) s/he is within her/ his rights. However, if s/he is belligerent, crude, and offensive s/he may have crossed the line.
