It sucks as it's all Laffs all the time and the ratings have leveled off. I do know that basically the first game is watched by around 1.5 million viewers and the second game of the doubleheader by 1.25 million in Canada. Bob "Ottawa player passes to Ottawa player...oh you expect me to know non-Make Beliefs and keep up with the play?" Cole is the worst pbp guy ever.

No clue about border states in the US.

I'm in the United States, and I try never to miss it on satellite.

I know that he is respected North of the Border, but some of Don Cherry's comments are somewhat outdated. He's constantly deriding college hockey players and foreign players for not being Canadian. His system didn't seem to work when he was running Missasauga.

I know it's tough to a septagenarian like Cherry to watch a game that was overwhelmingly majority Canadian in his youth evolve into the international magnet that it is today. My problem with his view is that I don't see the evolution as a bad thing the way Don does. I still like to watch him because some of his analysis points are good, but the kneejerk xenophobia needs to be stashed someplace.

Ron Maclean is a great Master of Ceremonies for HNIC. He does a great job every Saturday.

While I understand where your coming from I have to disagree with you. Remembrance Day comes only comes once a year. I think we should take some time out to remember these people. I mean for my generation, the younger generation we really take it lightly and don't realize how lucky we are to live in a safe and free country like Canada. For most of us, I don't think we would watch CNN or read the Toronto Star if there was something about a soldier dieing in Afghanistan or there was a program about remembering WW1. We do watch HNIC however, and most of us would probably continue watching if they showed something about the veterans. With me, whenever they show the fallen soldiers on HNIC I feel more like I should be doing more to help those overseas than I would when I see it on the cover of a newspaper. Like Joe said, if they showed it every week it would be too much, once a year though, is fine.

I live in the US (Washington State) and it is my most favorite show, and I never miss it. I do not know the total market coverage HNIC serves in Canada or the US but I hope the coverage in the US is increased.!
According to Wikipedia: "Hockey Night in Canada (HNIC) is a popular television broadcast of National Hockey League games in Canada, produced by the CBC. Hockey Night consistently remains one of the highest-rated Canadian programs on television. It is also the world's oldest sports-related television program still on the air. "

Also:" During the era that HNIC was on radio, it was broadcast over several powerful CBC stations whose nighttime signals reached much of the northern United States. As a result, the games had a following throughout the northern U.S., and especially so in Boston, Chicago, Detroit, and New York, the four U.S. cities that had NHL teams at the time. This has waned thanks to the expansion of local team TV coverage on regional sports networks.

NHL Center Ice offers Hockey Night in Canada at the same time as the CBC broadcast, airing the entire program from the Saturday Night pregame show through the HNIC After Hours postgame show.[citation needed] Europe's North American Sports Network also offers the broadcast in its entirety.

Additionally, U.S. cable television outlets near the international border (notably major markets such as Detroit, Buffalo, and Seattle) typically carry a nearby CBC affiliate on their systems (though some cable systems in Michigan carry the distant CBMT from Montreal). Seattle's NBC affiliate KING-TV even shunted some 2006 playoff coverage to a sister station, apparently because it thought most fans preferred the CBC broadcast, while non-hockey fans would rather watch local news (Seattle's NBC affiliate is distributed in Canada).

During the 2006 playoffs, the cable television channel OLN, now Versus, simulcasted CBC's coverage of some selected games, generally first and second round games from Western Canada, instead of using their own crews and announcers."

Hope that helps!

Been watching it since the 1979-80 season when I moved to the State of Washington. Back then, you only got one game every Saturday, starting at 5pm PacificTime. It wasn't the Leafs every week either, you got a nice sampling of each of the Canadian teams: Nordiques, Habs, Leafs, Jets, Oilers, Flames when they moved from Atlanta, and the Canucks. This was also just after the NHL absorbed four teams from the WHA so we got to see the rise of the Oilers and this young kid that didn't look old enough to shave that wore #99.

He wasn't too bad, if I remember right. Seemed like he had the potential to do great things in the NHL. ;-)

Toronto Guy is right. It should be called Hockey Night In Toronto because of all the Leafs broadcasts and biast commentary. Don Cherry is an open-Leaf fan but I like him anyway. What I can't stand is all the other broascasters who are always leaning towards Toronto no-matter who they are playing. Oh Yea, and if you wanna watch it in HD on Saturday nights, then you better be prepared for a Leaf game. They only show the Toronto Maple Leafs on CBC-HD. All of CBC is Toronto biast. Because apparantly Toronto is the Superior Capital of the World to them.

I live in Westren New York(North of Buffalo) I watch HNIC every Saturday. Nothing like watching 3 hockey games in one night. The Sabres game switching back and fouth with the early game on HNIC and then watching the late game on HNIC. One of my favorite parts of living in this area HNIC.

As a true Leafs fan, not only does my family watch Hockey Night in Canada, we watch whatever channel is broadcasting a game - including TSN, SportsNet and Leafs TV. It must be popular in the US - seeing that they had to call their Football Sundays "Football Night in America".

Whoever came up with the name HNIC was a genius.

I get NHL Center Ice ( I live in the US), and I do watch the games shown on CBC. However, I could do without pregame and postgame stuff with Don Cherry. Ugh!
