Blame it on El Nino. That's right we are now in an El Nino Year.
El Nino means the child and is so named because it occurs near Christmas. It is a warm current that pools further in the eastern
Pacific. It typical brings cold and storms in the West, while milder wetter weather in the east. An El Nino can last up to 18 months.

When cold wet fronts come down out of Canada/Alaska..rising up and over our mountain ranges...we get snow as the fronts dump moisture when they rise. Here in the SW, we get warm and wet fronts moving up from the tropics..and trailing cold air from the north, combined with Rocky Mtns also ingredients for snow.
