How has today's communication affected people's lives?

I think everyone's lives are affected in a hundred different ways by the new technology. Internet connects all of humanity - before that, we were all suspicious strangers. Cell phones means no one ever has to be alone again. It also means criminals can be caught in the act more readily. The video cell phones let you share your experiences intantly with people all over the planet. And - my favorite! - men can do the shopping without fearing they will come home without the right groceries! That has probably saved a lot of marriages (no nagging!). Also, more people can work from their homes, which means closer family ties and less pollution when fewer people drive. And, re the pollution factor, if we can enjoy seeing exotic places on a large screen in our homes, we don't need to travel there. That reduces pollution from plane travel. On the "downside", but this is only a temporary problem for some people, snail mail has decreased significantly, thus causing loss of jobs for anyone related to that industry. Same with the book publishing industry - more people read on the Internet and don't bother with books. Of course, that saves trees, which is good.

I think it's made everything go so much faster. No one has patience to take it easy any more. It has also led to devaluation of language and writing skills. In addition, it has diminished people's ability to think of creative solutions instead of looking for instant, preset answers.
