A rapist who has struck at least five times since April in and around Baytown has not only spread fear in this working-class community but also piqued the interest of those who study the criminal mind. The reason: He preys on other men.

That makes him something of a rarity in the world of crime.

"It's the least prevalent kind of serial rape, and largely underreported," said Jack Levin, a leading criminologist and director of the Brudnick Center on Violence at Northeastern University in Boston.

Levin and other experts say male-on-male rape sometimes stems from sexual encounters gone bad. But that does not appear to be the case with the rapist in this oil-refining town of 70,000 people about 30 miles east of Houston.

Instead, he methodically identifies and stalks young men and attacks them at gunpoint or knifepoint in or near their homes, according to police Capt. Roger Clifford. Sometimes he robs his victims, too, but rape appears to be the primary motivation, police said.

"This is certainly of interest, an interesting case," Levin said.

The U.S. Justice Department says one in 33 men in the United States has been a victim of a rape or attempted rape, compared with one in six women. Experts say men are far less likely to report a rape to authorities, because they fear being perceived as weak or see the attack as an assault on their masculinity.

In fact, investigators in Baytown fear there may be other victims of the rapist who are too ashamed to come forward.

"There's a lot of emotional damage that goes with being raped, especially when the victims are men," said Lynn Parrish, a spokeswoman for the National Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network. But she added: "The best way to get this rapist off the street is for more people to come forward."

Because men are supposed to be able to fight off their attackers(that's what the majority of people think, right?) and women have no defense, usually. We're weaker than men, physically, let's all face it. We're an easier target, so of course people are going to attack us before they'd attack a man. Men have these pride issues, yes? Yes. So they are going to go around with a bleeding but and wounded pride/masculinity instead of admit they just got ******(no pun intended). That's why they don't "fuss" about. They're too cowardly to admit it.

Not sure what your actual question is here, but if its just opinions you are looking for, then the most interesting point I picked up was the statement from the police Capt'.
"This is certainly of interest! An interesting case"!
Oh well then, that's OK? The police have expressed an 'interest.'
Rape whether of male or female or child must be classed as one of the most heinous crimes on the face of the earth, it must be really difficult for a guy to go to the police and say "I have been raped " But it must also be difficult for a female to have to do that also. There are some very sick people around us, male and female, and it seems to me that the police cant cope , in fact have never really been able to cope, to me they are all full of BS!
Without the 'help' from the public they know nothing!
The public in about 80% of their cases provide the main suspect, the police then only have to supply evidence to prove their case, and they often make a complete bal*s up of doing that.
Perhaps your police Capt' would find it more 'interesting' if it was his Son or Daughter that had been raped?
As for the other point you raised, yes I imagine it may be slightly more difficult for a male to admit he had been raped by another male, (or other males) this is not to detract from the fact that rape rape of any description is abhorrent , and rape of a child should carry a death penalty!
I found your question to be very 'interesting' in so far as it made my mind wander into the realms of 'who apart from a women would ever dream of raping a guy'? Then I realised it doesnt matter, rape is rape and should be punished accordingly!

Well because every man would say they'd rather die resisting such an act, it's the ultimate humiliation. I'd say there is a psychological reason for the perp's actions, either he has spent time in jail doing this (have they checked DNA?) or this person could be an illegal immigrant from some other (any other) country doing it as an insult. Or maybe he was a victim of such behaviour as a child? Maybe one of those American sex tourists that went to a third world country and assaulted him as a child? the situation certainly would make me apply for a handgun permit if I lived there. You are right, too many people are hesistant, but if the perp is a illegal, he'll just get deported and come right back ove rthe border and attack the witnesses, that's how the current loopholes in the law works. OBVIOUSLY he is learning where they live, and that fear, not embarassment, but retribution if they talk, is what is keeping them silent. Everyone who threatens to silence witnesses needs to face the death penalty when apprehended, no bleeding heart liberal defense.

Interesting and some good points. Best thing for men to do is what women do and report the offense and let police investigate and solve the crimes before this criminal escalates to more violent offenses.
