You need a software program to convert the DVD video files to a video format which you can load on to a iPod. There are several premium and free conversion programs. The easiest and most reliable I know of is Elaborate Byte's CloneDVD mobile and the free Videora. CloneDVD Mobile comes with a free 21 day trial while Videora is free. Either one is a good choice but CloneDVD mobile is pricey at $23.75 USD.
1. CloneDVD Mobile (www.slysoft.com): CloneDVD mobile converts your movie DVD easy and quickly into a format your portable devices like Sony PSP, Apple iPod Video, iAudio X5, Creative Labs ZEN Vision etc. can show.
2. Videora (http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPod/):
Videora iPod Converter is a free video conversion application developed by the creators of Videora. It allows you to convert your regular PC video files (avi, mpeg, etc) into the proper video format that your iPod understands.
When combined with Videora, Videora iPod Converter + Videora allows you to download, convert and copy video to your device, automatically using BitTorrent and RSS technology.
