I'm with you on this one...
I consider myself "christian" but I hate it when people hide their intolerance behind their religion. God, or any other higher power, would tolerate hate or ignorance. They did create us in their images, right? Why would they want to portray themselves as idiots?
No real answer, I guess, just an opinion

There could be a lot of reasons why people do this. I believe it basically boils down to intolerance and lack of respect for the beliefs of others. Some people believe that the only true belief is the one they believe in. If someone believes something other than that, that other person is absolutely wrong.
I find this particularly interesting when it comes to religion, because I believe there are many roads that lead to God - not just one. It's one of the main reasons I have decided to choose a spiritual path to God, rather than a religious one. I think a personal relationship with God is more important than any religious affiliation one chooses.

Truly religious people, who follow closely the principles of their chosen religion do not go around insulting other people or knocking other people's religions. Nor do truly religious people want to kill other people. Sadly, there are many "religious" people who claim to follow this or that religion but are actually blind to what the religion stands for and thus give it a bad name.
I also get tired of hearing the tired old fallacious argument that "all wars are caused by religion". That is absolute tosh - wars are started by evil people who often use religion as a "flag of convenience" under which to advance political causes. The "catholic/protestant" struggle in Northern Ireland was an example of this. All the major world religions deprecate violence and do not condone the starting of wars.

If that's all you see, you are either looking in the wrong places, or you are only paying attention to the wrong people You can't judge everybody like that. I consider myself to be a "religious type", meaning I have a very strong faith that I follow. I do not "knock" my fellow man just because his beliefs are different from mine. And I'm not going to try to drag him, kicking and screaming to the altar for Baptism. That would kind of defeat the Free Will thing.
Yes, there are a lot of people who have no tolerance for beliefs other than their own. They have tried to change other peoples opinions, and when they find out they can't, all they want to do is get them riled up. Ignore the.....they don't deserve your attention. BUT DON'T ditch your own faith, just because others are portraying it in a bad light. Profess YOUR faith, and show others it IS good.
I'll see you there! And, no, we won't be alone. But there will be a lot of people who are going to be real surprised when they don't get in!

It is the types that you mention that turn most off from any given religion. IMO they often do this because of Insecurity in their own religion. To walk your own path seems to be the best way to go for the reasons you pointed out. When we leave this world we will encounter whatever we believe in........then I suspect as we are purified from such thoughts.......then we will see what the truth is :-) To some this will be heaven or hell.

yea i do agree i do think each religion knocks over each other. for instance christainity dominates all which knocks down all. buh then muslisms knocks hinduism because theyre taught tht theres one god and everyone should believe in their god. so i do agree religion knocks each relgion. buh tht doesnt mean u dont have to believe in one. u should stick w/ a religion tht fits who u are and stand strong on it. buh not everything in religion is tru nor is it false. i mean no one from hell has came nd told us it was real., have they? so im sayin jus believe in a religion but it doesnt mean u have to agree with everything it says. ppl ask religous question knockin others to show off tht theyre religion is the greatest. its liek everything on earth is a competition. religion, beauty, knowlegde, wht more?

Because some people are so insecure in their own choice of religion that they can only feel good if they're using it as a club to bash others.
I freely admit that all I have is a belief (more precisely, a nonbelief) and that nobody knows. I just get cranky when people who haven't died tell me they KNOW.

Is this not down to a persons own opinion. Not neccesarily knocking other religions but they just have different opinions on it.
