Ice cubes will freeze it then you can pick it off.
Make sure you use a warm, not hot iron and the brown paper bag like the ones from the fruiterer as these are unwaxed.
If it doesnt work - RUN!

1. Put ice in a zip lock and close it and lay it on the wax.
2. Once it is very cold, take a butter knife and chip off every bit possible.
3. Plug in the iron to heat.
4.Make a pad of paper towels and lay them on the carpet tight up to the red wax stain, press the nap over onto the p-towels and place another p-towel on the top of the red threads.
5. Carefully rest the iron on the top to heat the wax letting it dissolve ONLY INTO THE PAPER TOWELS. Do not let it spread into the surrounding white carpeting. USE PAPER TOWELS WITH NO DESIGN, WHITE ONLY.
6. Change the paper towels as needed and do it again. This should get the majority out of it. BUT if the color stays even if the wax seems gone, I would snip the red threads out (this is only if the carpet has a somewhat deep nap.
7. If the spot shows you could snip some threads from the back of a closet or somewhere unseen and glue them into the spot to fix it.
Good Luck.

Don't take brown paper, but blotting paper! It may not be handy, but in a good paper shop you should be able to find it. You need a kind of paper that will suck the liquid wax, (or some old textiles should do the same service). Put the paper on the wax and iron without steam.
That will work for the wax.
Red is a terrible colour for most kind of stains. Even if all wax is removed, a bit of red may remain, sorry! You may have to dry clean the carpet, if the carpet permits dry cleaning.

A procuct called De-Sol-It which can be bought at Wal-Mart in the house hold cleaning good section makes the claim that it can remove candle wax. I have never tried it for this purpose, but it has done what it claimed on the things I wanted it to clean.

Silly Santa!!
Yes it works. You need to melt the wax but stop it from spreading anymore. If you dont have brown paper then try something else that you dont mind getting the wax on- old tea towel, grease proof paper, something similar.
Good luck!!!!!

Yep!, brown paper does work. This happened in our house only a week ago. I think the shiny side of the brown paper has to be face down to the carpet. Good luck!

Warm iron over kitchen roll will work, it's more absorbant, then use nail polish remover for any molten wax left over.
