The only thing I can add to answer 2 is that Parker Brother's started producing Monopoly in 1935, not 1936. Check out the web site under sources for early Monopoly/Landlord's games and rules. I think it's the best site on the net for early Monopoly history.

Hasbro does sell spare parts: http://www.hasbro.com/default.cfm?page=cs_parts but I would check nearby thrift stores first because it would probably be cheaper to buy a whole used game. BTW, Monopoly is only supposed to be played with thirty-two houses and twelve hotels. There are rules covering a building shortage.

Try eBay, you may get a whole set inexpensively. Also garage sales and thrift shops. Or you could mold some out of FIMO clay which you can get at any craft store.
