Hello there,

You need to save your files in your "Profile"

Each user has a C:\documents and settings\%username% folder. This is there OWN folder.

HOWEVER, if a user is "Administrator" to the computer, they have full rights to ALL folders. It is the nature of the beast.

Now, there are things you can do to prevent this. First, make the user that you do not want to see your stuff, a "user" and not an administrator.

Assumption, Windows XP as the OS.

Right click on "My computer" and then left click on "Manage". In the left column you should see something like "local users and groups". Open that window and it should show you two folders "users" and "groups". Highlight the Users folder and on the right side, double click the user you want to restrict. There should be a "member of" tab. Go in there and remove "administrators" group.

Done.

Now you have just restricted them from a WHOLE lotta stuff. Sometimes computer programs do not work, nor can they EVER install anything on that computer. It is kinda like taking away the rope for people to hang themselves with.

A more difficult way, but just as effective is to adjust security permissions to your local profile folder.

First, open "My computer" On the top, goto Tools|Options|View. Scroll down and UNCHECK "use simple file sharing (recommended)." With this checked, it is considered "Dork mode" With what I am telling you, you can not be in Dork mode.

Now, browse to the top of the folder you want to secure. C:\Documents and Settings\. Right click on the folder and goto "properties" You should see at least 3 things. The username of the folder that owns it, SYSTEM, and Administrators. Highlight the username that owns it and MAKE 10000% sure that "FULL CONTROL" is selected below. If it is, you can remove the "Administrators" group above.

Just to make sure everything is okay, click on "Advanced" below. This should bring up another window. Goto the "owner" tab. Highlight the owners and make sure the box is checked "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" Select "apply. Run this until you do not get any errors.

Okay out of everything and you are done!

PHEW!~

You can save you documents to a folder on the computer, like My Documents. Then check the folder security to make sure only your user account and access. Make sure that the Administrator account is also excluded if you want to block all access.

Not a problem in XP. Go into Help & Support and search for "user accounts". A very useful guide on there.
