I think you could make money.....but like w/any biz, it takes a little time to build up your clientale. I just picked up an Avon book at the grocery store left out on the countertop at customer service. So what you do is place those little books ANYWAY--laundrey mats, restaurants, gas stations, health clubs, ect. ebay, offer free gifts w/purchase
distribute them in small towns/cities too.
leave them in a few churches

I do not sell avon, but do sell a similar product line. I know that when I signed up I paid for a website, business cards and some personal office items. With my sign-up fee, I received over $300 in free retail-sized (full sized) product so I used that for selling (made my initial cost back) and the rest for samples. Also in my starter kit was mirrors and trays for facials, catelogs, samples and other stuff so I didn't have to buy as much seperatly. I also got a product description booklet that tells me exactly how each product should be used, order of application, ingredients, etc.
What do you get with your start-up fee? I would check on this because that will determine if you have to buy stuff on your own in addition to the fee. Also, VERY important, will you get a book that gives you specific info on each product? I find that in this business you must know everything about all the products you sell, including ingredients.
If you are interested in getting more information about Mary Kay, feel free to email me or go to my website. I get a 50% discount (profit) on ALL products and don't have to carry inventory

I've known people to make a little extra money by selling Avon, but it won't happen right away. There is sort of a pyramid going. You being the actual seller would come in last. I think the first few sells, you would just get discounts or free items, but even when you begin to make money, it will be very little unless your sells are major.

I do not sell Avon, but as a customer I asked my Avon lady (who I work with & have a daily collegial relationship with) how she makes any money given how inexpensive Avon products are? She replied that she does not make money from it; she does it because she can get some products for herself for free.
Good Luck!

Read this exciting account of Avon in this very easy to read book. It will give you much insight into how AVON got started plus some very interesting and inspiring sales stories and how products are born.

It takes only 10 dollars to sign up. they will give u ur books. U get 10 free brochures every campaign. if u want to make money, i suggest u get as many customers as u can and give them brochures on a regular basis. U will make 25 to 40% of what u sell.
By the way, mary kay offers 50% profit.
