I happen to BE an American and I'm embarrassed by the responses to that question.
While it is true that many of my countrymen swallow whole any "facts" that happen to agree with their politics, it is also true that others do research for themselves instead of being spoon-fed sound bites.
I've looked at this issue from both sides as objectively as possible. It is beyond doubt that there is a direct causal relationship between increased carbon dioxide levels and global warming. Never in the long history of the planet as there been as much of both present in the atmosphere. Never has the planet produced naturally as much carbon dioxide.
How anyone could ignore these simple truths is amazing.
Take heart - many Americans are alert, aware, and active. The vocal ignorant do not always rule the day.
Edited to add: the issue of global warming is NOT Liberal vs Conservative or Dem vs GOP. This is about science and the impact of humanity on the planet and has nothing to do with political views...or at least it should not.

You speak of profit as though it is something evil. Profit is how we all eat. If you live in a civilized society, you live on profit from the work you do every day. If you think that's a bad thing, perhaps you should return to subsistance farming and depend on your Aunt Anna for your medical care, and see how that works for you.
I'm constantly amazed by people who think the stone age is somehow a great existance. Do you not know that people used to starve to death and die of disease on a regular basis? Undoubtedly, people sometimes do bad things in the name of profit, but that doesn't change the reality. We need a profit-based system if we're to have a working society.
But again, I think your approach is the simple arrogance of some ideologists today: You believe that your answer is absolutely right, and anyone who disagrees with you must simply be wacky. I'm thrilled that you're so sure of yourself. However, some of us have learned that there's benefit in hearing both sides of every argument, even when we think we know the answers.

Some people wouldn't face the truth if it was pointed in their face. Americans are wacky but can't that be said for everyone everywhere? It's like smoking, people know it's harmful but still do it. Pollution is harmful to the earth, but we still do it. Humanity is the biggest threat to humanity. It's like the republican philosophy, get it now, pay later, just like the war in Iraq someone someday will have to pay. Humanity is so smart that corruption and greed will one day kill us all off. Until then, how much profit can I make?

One thing I have found out about this website is that there are many walks of life here. These people have different types of education and back grounds. I would look at some of these posts as humor and not to be taken seriously.

Hmm, not sure how much you paid to ask this question but to answer it is free. This forum helps people worldwide learn things in a non-threatening format. As for Americans yes, we can be wacky. We are many things including innovative, and diverse. We are also accepting of all people and opinions.... but to generalize us all as any one thing other than "Americans" seems to be indicative of one who does not know our culture(s).
Mayhap you should travel here to the good ole USA and find out who we are and what we are before passing judgement...

The warmest winter in 500 years? no one kept records that long, I do not think too many 500 year tree rings exist to confirm. The question is wackier than the answers. Check back in April to determine if this turns out to be a warm winter.

I don't see anyone claiming that the climate has not changed. What I do see is a disagreement as to how much of this change is caused by humans and how much is to be considered a natural occurrence.
What really surprises me is that nobody brought up that silly fluff known as the Kyoto Accord. Now that's wacky.
