I'm European and I can't say I don't like Turks. Stop generalizing. BTW, Turkey is close to me. :)

Prejudice my friend: the Ottoman Empire ruled a huge portion of the world for more than 400 years; and Ottomans were also Muslims, Christians led Crusades against them. So, we, Turks, are still seen as 'the bad guys' by most Europeans; wish they could understand that modern Turks are not like Ottomans were; we're a modern secular Republic, some Europeans know it some others ignore it or pretend to, because of prejudice. To all those who know who Turks really are: THANK YOU;)

I hate generalizations... History shows that Turkey was once known as "The Sick Old Man," because of it's unwillingness to let Islam die. It was through Turkey that Islam was spread by use of the sword throughout Europe. Islam was spread through violence to the lower reaches of Spain where it then began to die off. European countries are begining to once again feel the ills of Islam -- as noted with home grown suicide bombers in London, rioting annually in Paris, terrorist bombings in Spain, etc.. If there is a dislike of Turks, it may be for this reason. But this is only a suspicion on my part, based upon history.

My wife's friend has a sister who married a Turkish bloke and went to live with him out in the country in Turkey. She went to visit her sister there and told us that it was horrendous - like Albania or Britain in the year 1300.

I went through the International Transit Lounge at Istanbul Airport a few years ago, en route to Northern Cyprus. The toilets (no seats) were overflowing with s*** (I am not exaggerating) and the floors were covered in an inch of p***. I tried to remonstrate with the attendant, but he said that I was oversensitive (!!!) and that it was 'normal.'

I remember thinking then that these people were not European in any sense of the word, but now they might be joining the EU? Gawd help us!

maybe its just all the bad press. and turks have themselves to blame for that. for instance, the men who kidnap their children and hide in turkey while the wives or ex wives suffer looking for their kids from uk - thats just nasty. but i am sure this is not the only the reason. having said that I am sure plenty of europeans like turkey, they move there all the time, buy property there etc.

those who don`t are probably racist who hate Turkey for being an Islamic country & it`s people for being Muslims. BUT not all Europeans feel that way, some of them are very nice people

I'm Irish, lived in mainland Europe for a number of years, and met some very nice Turkish people whose company I enjoyed very much indeed. Mind you, I'm one of those weirdoes who doesn't judge people by their race or religion, but by their personality and attitude. I know, I'm really very strange ;-).
