The only sure way is the DNA test. Some people say the males are more beautiful. Another rule of thumb is the orangish circles on the cheeks of a male look like perfect circles with crisp lines, the females have fuzzy edges and circles can be misshaped.

Tell the cockatiel that ya'll are leaving to go somewhere at a

If the bird has a bright colored crown on its head and if its breast is brightly colored then it is a male. If the bird is a dull brown color then it is a female. The male are always bright because they use that to attract mates.

Look at their color. The male normally has beautiful yellow head, but a female normally is just a grayish color head.
Its all in the colors.
