i lie in england but have always wanted to go to america,were's the best place to holiday and if you live there whats it like?

That's a loaded question. America is such a big country, there is so much to see and do. New York, Florida and California of course being favorites among Italians. Depends on what you want to see, what you want to do. Do you want to visit a city with a great nightlife, or do you prefer to hang out with the locals with little or no tourists? Do you want a fast paced vacation or slow and relaxed?

Many British visit Florida, which is a good choice since it's so different in climate and geography than Britain, but still gives you exposure to the US. Of course the most popular areas are the touristy ones: Orlando (where Disney) and the beach spots like Miami. That's where I'd suggest for a first trip, then maybe New York for a second (or a second week of a two week trip).
Both are on the east coast, so are easy to get to from the UK also. That's not the case with other tourist destinations like Los Angeles or Las Vegas.

It really depends on what you want to see and do. It also depends on how long your holiday is. If you really want to see America completely, rent a car and take a cross country trip. Each region of the country is different, and it is nice to see the changes as you travel. If you do that, try to stay off the interstates, and travel the backroads. That is how you really see the country.
