During the Renaissance in Europe, April was the start of the new year. Reason was because that's when the farmers started sowing the seeds for the year's crops. The New Year was April 1st. Then it was changed by the Vatican or Royalty to January 1st to start the new year in the dead of winter. Not sure of the reason, but I'm sure there were reasons. So the difference between January and April is that January is the now the beginning of the new year, while 500 years ago, April was considered the beginning of the new year. One's the new new year, the other is the old new year.

They are four months apart. One is a winter month where I live and the other is a Spring month. The seasons change in the preceeding month in both cases. April has 30 days and January has 31.
