I've just bought my young son a PS2 and have some questions:
I) I've been advised to buy a memory card but not sure whether it's better to have several 8Mb cards or a single 32 or 64Mb card. 2) are Sony originals better than generic brands, which seem to sell higher capacity cards for less? 3) His PS2 is a slimline model, do I need a specific card or do all cards fit both old and slim models? Advice much appreciated!

All cards fit in all console.

go for the sony 8meg, seriously don't trust other cheap brands or those high capacity ones. I have had many experiences of corrupt, missing or inaccessible data from these.

Memory cards save the same stuff, except the higher capacity cards obviously save more. It is much easier to have 1 32mb card instead of 4 8mb cards unless you are going to loan and borrow saved info.

At this point as long as you know an off brand is reliable it is just as good as Sony for these cards and the old and slim models are identical in terms of compatibility.

i'd say get a 32 mb card. all cards fit the same with the slim and nonslim models so you dont have to worry about that. i ended up buying 3 8mb cards and i dont know what games are on what and its a pain in the ***. i wish i would of just bought a bigger card to put everything on the same one. if he likes a lot of different games, get a bigger card but if he only likes a few, get the 8mb.

I strongly recommend the Sony 8 mb card.

First of all, you are not a true gamer unless you know the horror of losing your saved game file on a generic/3rd party memory card (which almost never happens with Sony's memory card).

Second, the 8 mb is more than enough for your son. It can hold a decent amount of saved game files. That is, unless you plan to buy a lot of games for him and let him play day and night...

id get a Sony 8MB memory card that's a lot of saves enough for a child anyway but if you go for generic brand they tend to lose dater quite often so you end up shelling out more for a new one, also it will fit both the older and newer model ps2 so there's no worries there...

i got my son the same thing for his birthday, i would advice you to get the 8MB memory cards, because if all the games are on one memory card he will probably delete all the games hes saved like my son did, more than once i might add, if you have more than one card he will only lose some of the data, and you can use the same memory card for the fat PS2 and the slim line one,the memory cards we have are black if that helps.

All the Sony memory cards will fit your slimline PS2 it is better to get one card with a large memory and it,s better to get original memory card made by Sony.
I hope that your son has many happy hours on his new PS2.

1 8mb card is fine to start with as items can be deleted to save space. Any brand will do they are all the same just the name costs.

32 mb cards are better and work out cheaper than buying 8 mb cards individually.
