They are a large African nation, bordered on the north by the State of Eritrea - which was occupied by Ethiopia from 1941 to 1999 and seceded after a 30 year civil war - on the northeast by Djibuti, on the east by Somalia, on the south by Kenya and on the west by Sudan.
About 50% of Ethiopians are Muslims including the country's ethnic Somalian minority and the Tigray and Tigrai minorities who also make up the bulk of the population of Eritrea.
Ethiopia used to have a small Jewish population, the Beta Israel or "Falashas" of the city of Gondar, but most of them have immigrated to Israel.
Less than 50% of Ethiopians are Christians, they follow Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity and they can trace their denomination all the way back to the time of Jesus.
Most Ethiopian Christians are Oromos, but the country is ruled by the minority Amharas - who have run the country for the last 2,000 years or so.
The old Ethiopian Royal Family were Amhara, the pro Soviet Ethiopian Army officers who overthrew Haile Selassie I in 1974 were Amharas and the current pro American military government is controlled by Amharas.
Ethiopia has the largest Army in Africa - they have 220,000 regular soldiers in the Ethiopian Army, 200,000 national guard-type troops in the Militia (which used to be called the "Red Army" during the years the pro Soviet military government ran the country), they have 4,500 airmen and 150 combat aircraft in their army and they used to have a navy when they had a coastlline.
Once Eritrea seceded, they lost their coastline and their only seaport. They have to rely on independent but French-dominated Djibuti as their only outlet to the sea.
Ethiopia recently invaded it's eastern neighbor Somalia - they overthrew the Islamic Courts government - which was widely viewed as legitimate by Somalians but was not internationally recognized due to it's ties with al-Qaeda sympathizers - and imposed a Christian-dominated regime that is UN recognized.
The Ethiopian Army succeeded in invading Somalia with only 4,000 troops, because Somalia hasn't had a functional army or air force since 1991.
But now they have to occupy a hostile and well armed city of 1,700,000 (Mogadishu, the Somalian capital) - since the Somalians defeated the Green Berets back in 1992, let's see how well they do against the much less well trained and equipped Ethiopian Army.

confident, I even have heard of Eritrea. Eritrea is a incredibly new usa that borders the pink Sea. It replaced into as quickly as an element of Ethiopia. I do bear in concepts there replaced into an extreme warfare to learn their independence yet that now each and every thing looks non violent.

Yea its a country in Africa on the Eastern coast of the continent. Apparently from what the oh so insightful American media broadcasts everyone in Eithiopia is extremely emaciated, theres war, and uh famine. Then again once you go to Africa you can judge for yourself what there showing cuz hell it maybe a backwoodz country, but they show beautiful things about South Africa and isnt all of Africa plagued by those problems.
