Search on both terms at http://www.wikipedia.org

Basically though, they are physically different in shape if you're looking at their connector. There should be some snapshots as well as an in-depth explanation at Wikipedia.

There are 2 Sorts of each one

Both are connectors to external devices (Hard Drives Flash Drives etc)

There is USB 1 & USB 2 USB 2 is twice as fast transferring Data

Firewire also comes in 2 speeds Firewire 400 & Firewire 800 again 800 is twice as fast as 400

USB Is best used for Keyboards - Printers Scanners flash drives etc

Firewire is best used for Hard Drives - Data transfer & Video Cameras as its sustained transfer rate is far better than USB as USB Bursts Data as and when needed wheras firewire keeps up to speed far better
