Garter snakes, as with all snakes, can and do bite. However, they are non venomous (poisonous). Ribbon snakes are a type of garter snake. Garter snakes are very common across the United States.

Good responses above !

Snakes of all kinds are successful on the earth from their physical abilities, not their intelligence. Their brains are quite small & their behavioral range is rather limited. If your hand smells like food & they are hungry they will try to bite. If they are afraid & you pick them up they may try to bite. They don't have that many ways of expressing themselves.

Ribbon snakes & garter snakes tend to the small side in the snake world - their nonvenomous bites are not life-threatening; more of the get-the-BACTINE variety.

Snakes are fascinating, beautiful animals & can make good pets, but they do not learn things like their larger-brained mammalian cousins do.

Ribbon snakes are a especially good puppy, yet i might propose finding right into a corn snake or a ball python. I even have the two, and that i will arise with the money for them the two on my allowance. (i'm 14) so as that they are especially affordable, as quickly as you recover from the preliminary set up and each little thing. it is the main costly section. they are the two relatively mellow snakes, however that relies upon on the character of the snake itself. Ball pythons tend to be much extra laid back than corn snakes. i will certainly placed her on the table or some thing, and definitely bypass away her on my own for a jiffy. i will bypass an get a e book, or make precise ramen. i'm no longer able to do this with my corn, she likes to get everywhere. in spite of the undeniable fact that, corns have looooads of distinctive colour stages, from Miami section to Okeetees to Bloodreds.

Any animal with jaws will bite if you annoy it enough. Having said that, unless you suddenly become an insect or a small fish, you're probably not gonna get bit.
