I agree with you to a point. I'm black and I hate the fact that I don't know where I come from.
I would love to know where my ancestors came from and all of that. That is something that white people take for granted.

I get exactly what you're saying.
I don't have a white last name though... but then again I am of African descent.
An incident happen to me when I was in high school where a friend teased me about my last name and I retorted my calling her last name her "slave name" .. aww... I kinda feel bad about that now. lol!
well, we all have to remember this... its not about the last name... its about the person. every body is free to change their last name... but they shouldn't be forced to based on the fear of being rediculed by others. Its just a name.

My last name is French but it was supposed to be Haitian; the dude who filled out the birth certificate totally messed up my mom's last name

human resource is very discriminative against names and also it is easier to get power in the US with an english name.
