School in the US begins in Kindergarten, with most children being 5-6 years old.
Then students go through grades 1-12.
Grades 1-6 are generally considered "primary" or "elementary".
Then grades 7-8 are considered "junior high" or "middle" school.
Grades 9-12 are "high school".
There are some differences in the levels in that grade 6 often goes to the middle school and sometimes grade 9 is also in middle school.
Students are typically 18 or 19 when they graduate from high school. They can begin college at that time. In a lot of states, students can drop out of high school at age 16 if they choose.

School for kids age 5 (kindergarten) through age 12 (6th grade) is called Elementary school.
For kids age 12 or 13( 7th grade) through age 14 or 15 (8th grade) is called Junior high.
Some schools put the 6th graders in with the 7th and 8th and then it's called Middle school.
For ages 15 ( 9th grade) Freshmen in Highschool.
16 (10th grade) Sophmore in Highschool.
17( 11th grade) Junior in Highschool
18(12th grade) Senior in Highschool.
Then you graduate and you go to more school called college. You spend anywhere from 4 to 8 more years there depending on what your going to school for. By the time 22 - 26 you will actually join the rest of the world and not have a clue as to whats going on because you've just spent a quarter of your life in school.
