At age 8, there isn't a whole lot you can do besides what's already been said: good diet, bike rides, swimming, and just letting the kid play outside a lot.

Wind sprints and other conditioning you might have a middle school- or high school-aged kid do will challenge the youngster's love for the game. When I was 8, I would have rather quit and play video games than have to do all this hard work for something that was supposed to be fun.

Bike riding and swimming are usually fun, everyday summer activities for 8 year olds. Another thing may be to have the coach warm all the players up by having them run a lap around the Field before and after every practice-- It's a solid warm up and decent work out for pre-teen kids.

A good diet is essential. Real food, fresh and unprocessed.

Plenty of sleep and plenty of fresh air.

If he's in the Under 8's team, then he's obviously young and needs to build up stamina over a period. It doesn't just arrive fully fledged.

Good diet. Let him run around and play. The more active he is at play the more wind he'll have. remember He's only 8. This is supposed to be fun and teach him the fundamentals for latter. If you make it a burden, he'll learn to hate it.
