i have a 6GB flash drive. how can i put...?

...a fully functioning operating system on it? i know it can be done with a cdrom, but when i copied the files from the cd to the drive, it doesn't work. also, i might want to put the autorun installation of an operating system on it, as well as a simple menu to allow me to choose whether i want to boot an os or to install it. any suggestions?

as far as i know you need a bootable version of the CD on the flash memory and need to have a motherboard that supports usb booting
