I like to use the Opera web browser. http://www.opera.com/ . You can set it up to clear everything every time you exit, and it doesn't leave files laying around the way IE does.
You might also take a look at Tor. http://tor.eff.org/ . It lets you surf anonymously so that if someone can see your traffic (which someone can do even if you clear all your traces afterwards), they can't tell what you've done because it's encrypted and sent through many proxies.
Also check out Heatseek ( http://www.heatseek.com/ ). When it installs, you can tell it to call itself something else (like "lyrics database" or something that doesn't arouse suspition). It encrypts all your history, cache, and downloads, so you don't have to clear it out every time, and it is password-protected. So if someone does happen to click on "lyrics database", it'll just show a password. If they ask you, say yeah, I downloaded it, and now I can't even use it because I forgot the password.

I use privacyMantra from
http://www.codeode.com/privacymantra/index.html
It seems to do a good job deleting files, it also deletes the index.dat files that windows uses to cache file information. It is free. Index.dat files also contain where you have been on the internet. Though I don't recommend "mil shield" for getting rid of index.dat files because it costs money and privacyMantra is free, the mil shield site has a very good explanation of why index.dat is a security hole.
http://www.milincorporated.com/a_indexdat.html
privacyMantra and most of the other tools don't put the files in the recycle-bin but really deletes them. Unfortunately simply deleting doesn't get rid of the information in the files. You can use tools to un-delete files. To get rid of the information, I use eraser http://www.heidi.ie/eraser/ to erase all the free space on the disk. This overwrites the free space multiple times with random values. This overwriting gets rid of all the data. Eraser also overwrites the unused file pointers. You can set up eraser to wipe out the internet tracks, but it is a pain to do so.
WindowWasher will do both, but it costs money.
One other thing, is if you sign yourself into Google, they keep track of your search history also. You need to sign out of Google so that others can't use Google to get to your search history. You can access your search history at Google from your personalized home page.

if your DATA on your Pc is so important, why do u want to share it ? now if you have shared it, keep it a password protected sharing under Windows 98 or Xp. and activate the firewall.
that would be enough for resisting viruses. plus the av that is running on your PC will definately work against them provided it is updated and recently patched.
take care.

a million) Get an anti-virus application (some standard manufacturers are Norton Antivirus, McAfee, style Micro, Panda Antivirus, Avast Antivirus, and AVG). you purely choose one anti-virus application, yet I listed those that are truthful to decide on from. 2) this is good to enable (or make confident this is already enabled) the firewall that incorporates abode windows on your internet connection. It gets some flack for supposedly not being as good because it might desire to be, in spite of the incontrovertible fact that it does paintings. 3) do not use internet Explorer 6 on your internet browser. this is previous and packed with risk-free practices flaws. you may the two improve to internet Explorer 7 or attempt yet another browser like Mozilla Firefox. 4) ultimately, the two maximum obligatory issues are to not open digital mail attachments which you do not be attentive to what they're and to not click on internet classified ads that declare your workstation is contaminated. there is not any way for an internet advert to be attentive to even in the experience that your workstation is working sluggish or in the experience that your workstation is contaminated, yet once you install their application, then your workstation would grow to be contaminated with their undesirable application. Edit: i don't think of a firewall previous the abode windows firewall is needed, yet once you incredibly choose one, i could flow with a hardware firewall, not a application one. by using a hardware firewall, I mean a router with a equipped-in firewall it somewhat is oftentimes located between your workstation and your modem. maximum oftentimes, a router is used to chop up (or "course") your internet connect with dissimilar computers, yet maximum additionally comprise a firewall and that they'd be used as such, in spite of in case you purely have one workstation.

You might also want to check out anonymous proxy websites like http://www.secret.sc , http://www.shadowsurf.com or http://www.proxytrix.com to avoid saving anything on your computer in the first place. The advantage is that there is no tell-tale evidence of an installed clean-up program.
