Hey Sush,
Galleries are either in the Yellow pages, or online. Call, or write to them. Here are some examples.

Call and make an appointment with the curator. Be prepared for them to put you off - popular galleries often schedule exhibitions 2 years in advance. Be tenacious.
Be sure your art is well-presented and, if framed, professionally done.
Good fortune in your adventure.

first make a good presentaton kit
a portfolio including
works on paper and unstreached canvases
include ideas of object that they can sell related to your work
CV with ART photos & CD of art work you want to display
150 words about your work on paper
a short 2MB PPS [power point] for e-mailing
be honest and dont talk about your self, your work must appeal
tell them you dont want to sell your work from your studio directly
tell them you want to make a caree thru an art gallery
draft up a poster for your exhibition by hand [ no pc/mac]
find a sponsor for a small catalogue
this for starters
but at the end your work must be able to sell on its self, make shure you study the art galleries in your area and that your work is related to their style of representation
meet the gallery owners and staff unofficially at opening events, meet artist that work with them.
