I'm a Senior in high school, and I'm looking at colleges and majors and such...but I'm having a hard time deciding between if I should go for Chemical Engineering, or go for English/Library Science. In the area I live in there's a high demand for Chemical Engineers, but are there any of those out there who can tell me what their job is like? I'm trying to just gather my thoughts together, and any help would be awesome. Thanks!

These two departments are so very different that I don't know how anyone can advise you.

Yes, there is a high demand for chemical engineers, but if you consider only the employability, you may find yourself in a job you do not particularly like. Library Science would be my own choice, if I were young again, but that's personality. If you can't imagine loving a job as a librarian, it's not for you, because it would not make as much money as a chemical engineer.

Please remember that you do not have to choose a major right away, although you probably have to choose a school within the university, and these two might well be in different schools. Perhaps go for the English major first, but take courses in chemistry and see if you want to switch around.

You usually don't have to declare a major for two years. While chemical engineering specifically may be in a different school (it was when I was at U. of Michigan in the 1970s), chemistry in the more academic sense is probably in something corresponding to Michigan's Literature, Science and the Arts: i.e., their liberal arts program.

The best paying job in the world is a corporate owner. You don't even need a degree just ask Steve Jobs and Bill Gates.

the university you choose should have a personality test to give you some clue as what type of job you might like, the go from there.
