Anyone notice most 90s sitcoms were revolved around an office in NYC, with atleast one gay or questionably gay co worker in the office? Actually most 90s sitcoms were based on NYC but filmed in Los Angeles anyways.

The reason why the majority of Sitcoms that revolve around New York are filmed in L.A. is simple. It is because it's cheaper to recreate what everyone recognizes about NYC {The Empire State Building , etc}, also filming in and around New York is very expensive. "The Nanny" 1993-1999, "Will and Grace" 1998-2006, were two '90's sitcoms set in New York but filmed in L.A.. In fact, Sony Studios and the Culver Studios are right across the street fro m each other in Culver City, Cal. Sony is where "The Nanny" was filmed
at Sony and "I love Lucy" was filmed @ the Culver Studios.

Not only were sitcoms were set in New York and filmed In Los Angeles, so many dramas like "NYPD Blue".

I should know because my mom and I ran into a production on "NYPD Blue" filming near the Ronald Reagan Building in Downtown L.A. We actually talked to Dennis Franz who played Det. Andy Sipowicz. He was very nice. Bel air, unlike it's sister city Beverly Hills isn't a city unto itself, it's apart of the City of L.A. So unlike B.H., Bel Air doesn't have it's own Mayor and City Council.

I've never noticed that. As far as I know, the majority of '90s sitcoms did not revolve around an office in New York City, with at least one gay co-worker.

There's a few leaks in your theory...here's a few prime examples where the city was different and there was no "questionable person"

Full House - San Francisco, CA (I know, probably should've had that "questionable" person)

Family Matters - Chicago, IL

Step by Step - Green Bay, WI

Married with Children - Chicago, IL

Fresh Prince of Bel Air - Belair, CA

Home Improvement - Detroit, MI (and no Wilson was not "questionable")

Seinfeld totally broke me up, I can't imagine how anybody could write such funny material. Based in NYC for sure, but no gay characters even tho the topic came up a couple of times.

Seinfeld was the only show I liked. The characters were excellent and the writing superb. Nothing could beat it.

maybe because coming out was becoming more pronounced in the 90's ... hollywood was definitely coming out more than ever, and it just reflected what was going on at the time
