I thought he was dead....but after i picked him up he stuck his head out for a second, took a breath.....and then put his head back down on my hand like he had no energy. Usually we have the turtles in a pond ouside....but about 3 months ago we made a pond in the house fo rthem during the winter months incase the pond would freeze all the way to the bottom. I put him in a lil cage by himself for about 25 hours and now he's fine. This is the 2nd time this has happened. Could it be that he's trying to go into hybernation? Do i need to raise the Temp. in the pond to prevent this?

I don't think it's hibernation make sure they can get out off the water. Painted turtle's hibernate at the bottom of ponds and dig themselves into the gravel but if your turtle is inside it probably won't hibernate. Unless they don't have enough sunshine if your turtle gets worse and not better I'd take her or him to a professional

Water temps should be around 75-80F, otherwise they become very lethargic.
